Dynamic loft is the loft of the clubface at the moment of impact — which is rarely the same as the static loft stamped on the club. A 10.5° driver can deliver anywhere from 8° to 16° of dynamic loft depending on shaft lean, attack angle, and face rotation. Dynamic loft is the actual variable that determines launch angle and spin rate, not the loft printed on the head.
Knowing your dynamic loft explains why two players hitting the same 7-iron get totally different launch and spin. Strong-grip players with forward shaft lean deliver less dynamic loft (and lower launch); weak-grip players add loft. Dynamic loft is the missing link between setup and ball flight.
TrackMan iO measures dynamic loft to within ±0.5° at impact — combining face angle, attack angle, and face rotation into a single integrated reading.
